Conbook

Each year, ConFuzzled produces a full colour convention book and programme. And like every year, we invite you all to submit artwork and stories so that we can fill it full of fineries produced by the very creative furry community. If you feel like you have something you would like to see featured in a book that 450+ people will take home with them, then please submit it to us before the end of February 2012. Details on how to do so are at the end of this page.

I know this seems like a lot of text, but please follow it to make sure you submit material that will look excellent when printed.

The theme for ConFuzzled 2012 is ‘The Silver Screen’, so please ensure it fits the theme. We’re looking for pictures and stories of movie stars, fancy cars, movie parts and all the other elements that bring out the glitziest elements of the world of movies!

If you are creating art:

  • We cannot accept sketches, because they usually do not print very well.
  • We would prefer colour images, because unlike many other conventions’ conbooks our entire conbook is in glorious CMYK colour. However, greyscale and monochrome images are fine too.
  • The shortest edge of the image should be no less than 900 pixels. This is so that your image is in a high enough resolution to print. If you are scanning hand-drawn art, then make sure to scan it at 300DPI.
  • If you can, please set your colour space to CMYK. If we receive work in RGB, we will convert it for you. However, by doing this some bright, vibrant colours can look dulled, darker and a little less intense. Be sure to check how your piece will look in CMYK in your image editor to ensure you know how it will turn out.
  • Please save the file as a PNG, PDF, JPG, AI or PSD. We’d prefer PNG for bitmap images and PDF for vector images.
  • Adobe Illustrator users are advised to use the crop area tool to help our page layout software work out boundaries as you intended.

If you are writing a story:

  • Please send it as either TXT or RTF. Word and OpenOffice users can export their work as RTF easily.
  • Don’t embed any images or excessive formatting except for bold and italic, as your work will be made to fit in with the style of the rest of the book.

Before submitting, please bear in mind the following:

  • You don’t need to attend the convention to submit work! It’s a shame if you can’t make it, but that’s no reason not to show off what you can do. Please send us some art or writing even if you’ll not be attending.
  • As a reminder, you don’t have to draw Brok! We do love seeing art of our resident badger, but feel free to explore other aspects of the theme. If you want to draw him, then by all means be our guest! Keep in mind though that a large proportion of submissions are typically of Brok.
  • We can’t guarantee that your submission will definitely be published. We have only a limited amount of space to feature submissions and we will cherry pick what we feel works best on the page. Please don’t be offended if your work does not get published.
  • The conbook is published under a Creative Commons license (BY-NC-ND 2.0 UK) and if you submit your work, you agree to let us publish your work under it too. To find out what that means for you, visit http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/uk/
  • We can’t send a final proof prior to printing as the final layout of the book could remain in flux until the day of printing.
  • If you’re in the book when we send it to print, we’ll try to let you know by email.
  • We also cannot guarantee that the quality control team will proof-read your work, so please make sure your spelling and grammar are all checked out before you submit.
  • We’d like people to see more of what you do, so when you submit work, please supply us with a link to your website, gallery page, livejournal or wherever else you display your work.
  • Please keep it clean! Although the convention itself is for people of 18 years or over, the conbook is a souvenir we want people to proudly show off, and for that we need you to refrain from submitting sexually explicit artwork and stories.

In summary:

  • Submit non-sketch CMYK art at 300DPI (shortest edge a minimum of 900px), preferably in JPG, PNG or PDF format.
  • Submit writing in RTF or TXT format, without images and without excessive formatting.
  • Supply a link to your gallery.
  • The final date for submissions is February 29th 2012.
